Donkey Kong (and others) gear up for Winter Olympics

I know the announcement of Donkey Kong in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games is old news, but isn't his press photo delightful?

SEGA has just announced that Bowser Jr. and Silver the Hedgehog will also join the roster for this year's title. Check out the official roster thus far here.

Soon, you can launch games from inside your PS Home

Hello? Is anyone here?

I've visited PS Home about 5 times. Everytime I go, I wander aimlessly and realize there's nothing that I'm really interested in doing. However, starting this fall you'll be able to launch games from inside of Home. I believe this step will really add a lot to the whole experience. In some ways, I look at Home as an experimental dashboard for PlayStation.

Currently, the main dashboard is pretty lackluster, and yes the 3.00 software update coming soon will offer more features. But I also wonder if the plan is to have your console boot up to Home, and access all of what Home offers plus your navigation menu. I guess we'll see, but either way it's nice to get the upgraded feature.

The Hardest Arcade Game of All-Time: 'R-Type Leo'

A new feature of One Life Gamer, starting now, is called "The Hardest Arcade Game of All-Time." It will feature a game that is so hard to beat, you literally would need 40 dollars worth of quarters to do it!

Our first entry is the space shooter R-Type Leo. This game covers every inch of the screen with enemy fire, allotting roughly an inch of space for your craft to move without being bombarded with bullets. I mean this game is brutal. Don't believe me? Take a look at this quick video.

The game will arrive in early 2010 for us Westerners. Watch the trailer and be amazed. The game looks stunning, and for a Wii title, it only proves that games can look great when developers put their heart into the titles. Can't wait.

Watch as four players take on New Super Mario Bros. Wii's desert world. The game looks amazing but I really hope they add another playable character. Two Toads just seems unfair!

'Just Cause 2' GamesCom '09 trailer

Just Cause 2 is releasing next year, so what better what to prepare than watching the new GamesCom '09 trailer. The beauty of the trailer almost makes up for the fact that the game was pushed back a good two years from its original release date.

'Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story' (DS) GamesCom '09 artwork

This artwork reminds me very much of the older Mario style used in the early 90's. I love it. Thoughts?

PlayStation 3 price dropping to $299

Sony folds; PS3 just got a lot cheaper

Sony has announced that current PlayStation 3 models will now drop their 400 dollar price tag to a measly $299. Best part? The price cut goes into effect pronto. Hope you didn't buy a console earlier this month!

Seems like the Wii's price tag of $250 is looking a bit high compared to Sony's HD gaming and blu-ray powerhouse. This puts Nintendo in an interesting position. If a Wii HD is around the corner, I can't imagine it could go above a $299 price tag with today's news. I bet Sony's news caused Nintendo some ass sweat.

PS3 Slim officially announced! 2 weeks away from release.

Remember this? Yeah, it's not a rumor anymore.

The PS3 Slim has been announced by Sony today at the GamesCom2009 Sony keynote. The console will cost $299 and will have a 120GB harddrive. The console will also product 34% less power than its bulky predecessor.

The console will become available early September. A PS3 price cut will arrive tomorrow for all existing PS3 consoles.

Sony announces firmware 3.00 for PS3

A new firmware update will arrive soon, offering a customizable dashboard, showcase for Trophies, the "What's New" section and much more. Here's a video demonstration, courtesy of Joystiq.

GamesCom 2009: Sony press conference upon us!

At 12:30pm Eastern time, Sony will take the stage to give their keynote. More than ever, the announcement of a PS3 Slim has gamers and journalists waiting in excitement. What will it lok like? What will it offer?

Additionally, a PS3 price cut is expected to be announced. It's also possible Sony will talk more in depth about their upcoming motion sensing plans. Only time will tell.

SingStar: The Beatles announced (Update: not announced)

The Beatles franchise is starting to let down its protective wall, adding another music video game to its 2009 roster.

EA is predicted to announce SingStar: The Beatles, a PS3 exclusive title that will more or less be The Beatles: Rock Band sans instruments. While the microphone option is available with Rock Band, one could wonder what the point of the game is, unless it will contain a very low price tag. More information is expected to be announced shortly.

UPDATE: MTV Games is claiming that the rumors are not true. Instead, you'll be able to just sing the songs on the Rock Band game (which clearly makes more sense than selling another software title.)
