No More Heroes Gets Move Support

Not gonna lie, this is a good news/bad news scenario. The good news is No More Heroes: Heroes' Paradise is being released for PS3 with Move support. The bad news is that for the time being, it looks like only European gamers will ever see this title.

The No More Heroes franchise got its start on the Wii where fans fell in love with over the top violence, amazing boss fights, and super nerd/badass protagonist Travis Touchdown. However when the series made the jump to HD consoles, motion controls (which were a fun part of the experience) were lost.

Konami is looking to give HD gamers a fix to this problem with No More Heroes: Heroes' Paradise, releasing next year. At the moment Konami only plans on a European release but if we hear anything (ANYTHING) about Travis Touchdown coming stateside, you'll be the first to know!

Microsoft Announces Avatars 2.0

Our beloved bobblehead Xbox avatars will receive a visual update to coincide with the release of Microsoft's Kinect peripheral this fall.

The news broke straight from the lips of Rare's Senior Programmer Nick Burton, "The proportions will be made more realistic because hand-eye co-ordination broke when using the old cartoony proportions - not in terms of hardware but rather, player perception."

Makes sense. Rare (the developer of Donkey Kong Country and GoldenEye) more or less lead the charge in implementing avatars at Microsoft. So if these guys say changes are a comin', changes are a comin'. Look forward to "Avatars 2.0" closer to the release of Kinect.

Viewtiful Joe and Dormammu in Marvel Vs. Capcom 3

It's hard to process all of the latest and greatest coming out of GamesCom in Germany, but here's a healthy dose of news for all you fighting game fans! Capcom's Viewtiful Joe and Marvel's Dormammu have joined the Marvel vs. Capcom 3 roster.

Viewtiful Joe was a stellar brawler title released in 2003 praised for its unique art style and whimsical world of whoop ass. Using film-style techniques like slow motion and fast forwarding, Joe put impressive amount of hurt on his foes. Joe's had a few more outings since then, but his first seems to be nearest and dearest to gamers' hearts.

Dormammu on the other hand is a bit more on the obscure side of the fanboy spectrum. The arch-nemesis of Marvel's Dr. Strange (although very awesome, even Strange isn't exactly a flagship character) Dormammu in an interdimensional being composed of sheer chaotic energy. The only thing that really makes sense regarding his appearance in MvC3 is that well, it's the Marvel dimension colliding with the Capcom dimension, so some interdimensional turbulence should be expected.

Latest "Other M" trailer gives a Metroid history lesson

A lot is happening at Germany's Gamescom 2010 convention right now, but you don't need a plane ticket to get your eyes on the latest new game trailers. A brand new Metroid: Other M trailer has surfaced from Nintendo, and it offers fans a brief history lesson about Samus Aran's journey through space.

Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock shreds its way into stores September 28th.

Does Nintendo's software release schedule indicate a December 3DS launch?

Around this time of the year, Nintendo often givens us a look at their upcoming software titles for the next quarter or so. However, their recent software schedule may be more revealing than initially thought.

The Big N announced an absolutely stellar line-up of triple-A titles at this year's E3, yet nearly all of those games are being release between now through November 21st. This leaves a big, open window for December. If only the company was planning a big console launch; oh wait!

The upcoming Nintendo 3DS handheld is scheduled to release prior to March 2011, but a release date has not been confirmed. Based on the company's software schedule, I think it's very likely we can expect a December or January launch for the handheld. A specific 3DS release date is expected late September.

Until then, continue theorizing.

LittleBigPlanet 2 story trailer excites the creative masses

Sackboy returns! Media Molecule's fabric friendly favorite is starring in his next adventure for the PS3 with the upcoming November release of LittleBigPlanet 2.

The much anticipated creation sequel puts an emphasis on having the user create not only the environments, but mini-game genres as well. Now you can create an RPG, or a racing game, or a FPS right in the middle of the LittleBig universe. And of course, you can share these creations with all your friends, or strangers via the PSN.

But with all that's new, you can't forget how great the game's story mode is. The above trailer gives us a taste of the story mode, which adds quite a bit. Take a look, and be inspired.

Super Scribblenauts arriving with adjectives October 12th

This fall, prepare yourself for the follow-up to last year's creatively addictive title, a game that will 1up its predecesor in every way. Super Scribblenauts for the Nintendo DS will not only bring with it new words, but the ability to throw adjectives in front of words. Madness, I tell you!

If you like the idea of flying a leopard spotted hippo with wings, you can. Your only limit is your imagination, and of course foul language.

THQ brings drawing tablet to Wii

While it's not Mario Paint, it is something. Publisher THQ is launching a new tablet for the Wii console that will let users draw, while their creations simultaneously appear on their TVs. Bundled with the game uDraw Studio, players insert and attach the Wii Remote into the left side of the device. Other supported software titles set to release include Pictionary and Dood's Big Adventure.

Unfortunately, THQ claims their tablet is geared towards 6-12 year olds, meaning I'm just shy of the demographic. Still, it's amazing to me that no one has really released a true drawing simulator, including Nintendo, whether on a tablet or not. In fact, a painting game featuring afro-wearing Bob Ross was supposed to be a Wii launch title, until it was shelved.

The game and tablet will arrive for $70.

Gaijin Game's next game is Bit.Trip Fate

Just a few days ago, Alex Neuse from Gaijin Games teased the title of the next game in the Bit.Trip series via the company's Facebook page:

"Alex Neuse here. I just got my first legitimate PERFECT in an entire BIT.TRIP level! It was Level 1 of BIT.TRIP F_ _ _! My key to success? The Wii Zapper."

Well now we know that the game is called Bit.Trip Fate. Sounds exciting! Unfortunately all we know is you use the Wii Zapper. But at least we have a release date of this fall.

Samus Vs. Master Chief

With the holiday season close at hand, retailers are counting on receiving some blockbuster video games to prove the recession wrong. And two heavyweights kicking the last sales quarter off are Metroid: Other M and Halo: Reach. Yes, everything's cooler with a colon.

Self proclaimed hardcore gamers the world over scream into the night wanting more "hardcore" Wii titles and Metroid: Other M should be just that. Developed by Project M (a collaboration between Team Ninja of Ninja Gaiden fame and Nintendo SPD Production Group 1) Other M combines the sidescrolling action/adventure of Metroid's 2D glory days with the exploration and general wonderment of the 3D prime series. Metroid: Other M releases August 31st.

A mere two weeks later (September 14th) Microsoft's ace in the hole Halo: Reach hits retail shelves. A prequel to FPS sensation and money printing phenom Halo: Combat Evolved, Reach introduces new abilities like the use of jet packs and holograms to take down opponents. Reach also introduces a new protagonist, a Spartan who responds to the call sign Noble 6, to fill in for the events prior to Master Chief's role in the space opera. Expect plenty of Bungie polish both on and offline and you're set to go for what could be one of the best selling games this holiday season.

Shutter Island game for DS outed by ESRB

If not an official press release, then leave it up to the ESRB to out an unannounced game to the masses. The ratings board has details posted about an upcoming Shutter Island game being developed for the Nintendo DS.

The game is said to be a puzzle game, taking place at the eerie Ashecliffe Hospital featured in the hit film. As a U.S. marshal, your job is to solve the many mysteries of murder that plague the hospital.

While it's not an Inception game, at least one of Leonardo DiCaprio's puzzling flicks will get the game treatment.

DDR makes first appearance on PS3 this fall

Dance Dance Revolution! The sweat-inducing cardio phenomenon has swept the nation for over a decade. But surprisingly despite the many, many, many iterations, the game never released on the PlayStation 3 console. Until now!

This fall, Konami is bringing DDR to PS3 with the release of DanceDanceRevolution; I guess this game is the ultimate edition given the lack of subtitle. Featuring over 30 tracks of Konami original tunes, plus a collection of licensed tracks, DanceDanceRevolution will feature the same arrow pressing gameplay, now with support for both the PlayStation Eye and new PS Move peripherals. You can also upload your performances onto YouTube and Facebook.

Look for DDR to release on the PS3 this fall.

Scott Pilgrim Bob-ombs at Box Office

The weekend box office numbers are in and they're not pretty. For gamers at least. Scott Pilgrim, the video game/comic book/nerdgasm hybrid, finished in 5th place behind 'The Expendables,' 'Eat, Pray, Love,' 'The Other Guys,' and 'Inception' pulling in a meager $10.5 million, with a rumored production cost of $60 million. :(

Should we as gamers be shocked though? The Scott Pilgrim comic franchise is basically an underground Canadian phenomenon that's permeated it's way into the hearts of American comic book readers (this writer included). But it's far from the mass appeal of Spider-Man.

Michael Cera once again portrays an awkward adolescent struggling with relationship issues, albeit in a universe where fights are visual effects smorgasbords and enemies explode into coins. Don't get me wrong, the film oozes charm and is a must see for anyone who hearts video games and comic books. Anyone outside of said demographic will look on in utter confusion spouting phrases like, "Is that the internet?"

Don't f*ck with Julia Roberts.

Sadly, mainstream audiences don't fit the bill and although Pilgrim may win vs. the world, he got totally KO'd at the box office.

Star Wars Blu-Ray Coming 2011

The force was strong with Star Wars fans at this weekend's Celebration V convention in Orlando. Though not entirely unexpected, George Lucas announced that the entire Star Wars saga will be released on Blu-ray in 2011. That's all six movies on six discs loaded with extras including new documentaries, deleted scenes, and interviews from the Lucas archives.

Blu-ray won the HD battle over HD-DVD fairly early on, so why the hold up? The bloated beard stated that, "We've been wanting to do it as soon as we possibly could, but we just wanted to do it when enough people would be able to buy it and see it." Lucas' decision to hold off until Blu-ray had thoroughly saturated the market may be a financially sound gameplan, but let's face it. Nerds want it now.

In a street interview, one nerd (who wished to remain anonymous) commented on the announcement saying, "I really liked Star Wars when I was a kid, but as I got older I just sort of realized how bad they really are. Ewoks, Jar-Jar, Hayden Christensen, seriously? Come on."

Regardless of what Kyle Farnell (the anonymous nerd) thinks, look for the entire Star Wars saga on Blu-ray next year. And just for kicks, here's the deleted scene of Luke assembling his lightsaber before entering Jabba's palace.
