Katamari Forever Exclusive to PS3

People love the Katamari.  The simple act of rolling environmental objects into a ball that steadily increases in size has captured the hearts of gamers all across the globe.
Fans of the super quirky, super stylized Katamari series should be amped to know that the latest installment, Katamari Forever, is heading to PS3 this Fall.  The PS3 exclusive will feature the beloved Prince, cousins, and King of the Cosmos in full 1080p glory.

Katamari Forever takes classic Katamari stages as well as new ones and adds fresh gameplay spins on every stage.  Some levels will require you to roll your Katamari to plant flowers, or add to color to black and white levels.

Combine these new additions with the awkward fun that is Katamari and PS3 owners have a lot of fun to look forward to later this year.  Check out the trailer below!

Wii Madden 10 Boasts New Art Style

If a picture says a thousand words then the new pictures of Madden 10 for the Wii will spark a labyrinth of debate on the internet.
The Wii has always been graphically underpowered compared to the PS3 and 360 and EA wants to cater the Wii's specific n
eeds.  The new cartoony character models are very reminiscent in style to Team Fortress 2, but EA assures Maddenites that the gameplay of the Wii experience will be the same of other consoles.

In their press release, EA gave a brief description of each character type:

Wide Receiver/Defensive Back:
His tall and lean frame is indicative of his speed, agility and ability to snatch any ball that comes his way.

Linebacker:
His solid, muscular body warns that he plans to knock your block off.

Quarterback:
His wide shoulders and small waist emphasize the "heroic leader" look.

Lineman:
This hulking mass lets you know that he is there to stop you in your tracks.

Strong Safety/Running Back:
His compact body features muscular thighs that convey strength and speed.

While some of these descriptions may have you all hot and bothered ("his solid, muscular body") I can at least appreciate that EA is going out of their way to give players a unique Wii experience .  But that's just me, be sure to let us know what you think in the comments section.

New PSP Go! coming this year?

According to 1UP, a new PSP is indeed a reality and will debut this fall. Sony has been quiet about a handheld successor to their current model, but 1UP is convinced it is coming.

The new model will likely ditch UMD support, but will add a second analog stick and sliding screen. The more portable model might be dubbed the PSP Go!, as sources seem to indicate that Sony is done with numerical monikers.
(Sorry folks, not the new PSP. It's just a mock-up)

So what do you think? It's certainly likely a possibility, especially since Nintendo has dominated the handheld market since... forever.

Excitebots: Trick Racing Review (Wii)

Dust Off Your Wii Wheels!

Since Excite Truck debuted as a Wii launch title, gamers were immediately able to fully immerse themselves in a motion controlled racing game. Implementing a points system based on combing your rank with your accumulated trick points, Excite Truck brought diversity to the standardized racing genre. Yet for as great as Excite Truck was, Excitebots: Trick Racing is that much better.

Excitebots replaces the truck transportation method and introduces robotic mobiles that resemble different creatures; frogs, birds, bats, and a squid just to name a few. To control your bot you can use the Wii remote, twisting it side to side, or the Wii Wheel, which feels as natural as you'd hope.

In the Excite Mode of the game, your goal is to earn a designated number of stars on each course to achieve an "S" rank, which is the highest rank. While you will receive stars based on what place you finish the race in, you really can rely solely on pulling off tricks to earn enough stars. You'll want these stars to progress and unlock more courses, but also because you'll use these stars to unlock more bots and different bot color choices. Excite Truck only offered a few ways to earn these stars, but that's all changed. Excitebots keeps a lot of what you loved, like jumping through rings, air spins, and drifting, but adds a hell of a lot more.
You need to hit the question mark boxes (Mario Kart anyone?) to activate different items or instant mini games. By hitting one, for instance, it may give you a pie and ask you to throw the pie into a clowns face, of course all this while driving. Another may give you a giant mallet used to pound the ground and wreck your opponents bots. Another might activate a bot-run mode where your bot stands up and can run over the other races, trample trees, and can fly over cliffs. Doing these things adds a lot of depth to the courses. There isn't a lot of time where you are just driving, as you are constantly pulling off one trick or another.

With all the fun the game brings to the table, there are really just two issues that I have. Excitebots took away SD card support for listening to your own music tracks during the game. This feature was a huge bonus for Excite Truck and losing it is truly unfortunate.

Another negative to the game is the addition of the red bar. When your bot approaches this red bar, you are forced to stop racing and spin your Wii Remote in a circle for about 8 to 10 seconds. What this does is put a hault to the fun in gameplay. Imagine a fast paced Nascar race, only to see the drivers take a lemonade break. The reason why this is so bothersome is because this new red bar is featured on every course, on every lap, and forcing it on you is pretty, pretty, pretty stupid. Moving on...

The levels seem to offer a pretty descent variety, while including a few retro stages that were featured in Excite Truck. Because the game is so wild and crazy however, it would have been nice to feature more diverse stages that really pushed the envelope. Maybe a stage on a volcano? What is great is that the courses are big and after hours of playing, you can find more and more secrets and shortcuts that help to mix it up.

Excitebots also features a Wi-Fi mode where you are able to compete head to head with up to 6 players. The mode works great and is extremely addictive. Also included are tons of different missions to complete as well as a Poker Mode. You simply compete in a race with 5 cards in your hand. While racing, you'll keep approaching 5 cards that you can basically pick and choose which cards you want to discard and which you want to keep. You'll swap out cards thoughout the laps of the race, trying to win as many points as you can. It's pretty fun, and definitely a new gaming experience.
The Game
Excitebots really does a lot right. Introducing new, fun ways to race, while keeping the formula of earning stars to improve your overall rank. Just a few gripes keep this game from perfection, but the game does achieve exactly what it sets out to. You can't play this game and not have a good time, it's simply impossible.
(8.5/ 10)

The Time
Each race only lasts around 3 minutes, so you can play as much or as little as you want. If you want to unlock every mode, every bot and every color, it may take you a few weeks. The game is so addictive though, so you won't mind playing course after course.
(8/10)

The Verdict
Play it! Excitebots: Trick Racing really offers gamers such an unique racing experience. The game will be fun for all ages and any level of gamer experience. You'll quickly develop a favorite bot, and once you do, I'm pretty sure you'll be fully addicted to this game.

Tekken 6 Brings the Fight to PSP

While many a fighter fan is counting down to the fall release of Tekken 6 on PS3 and 360, PSP owners can now put a feather in their cap.  IGN reports that a Namco Bandai press release has confirmed that Tekken 6 is coming to the PSP.
Releasing alongside its console brethren, Tekken 6 on the PSP will feature additional content including stages, items, and characters.

An important addition for portable pugilist is the inclusion of an ad-hoc versus mode.  The PSP version of Tekken 6 will also feature a "ghost" mode allowing you to challenge the ghosts of other players.

While a bit vague on other details, Namco Bandai was quick to tout their hype horn:  "A must-have for Tekken aficionados, Tekken 6 sees the return of many familiar faces as well as new characters to create the largest line-up the series has ever seen.  With a growing roster of fighters, each equipped with their own deadly techniques, martial art moves, and attack combinations, Tekken 6 will the best 'King of Iron Fist Tournament' yet.  Adding to the already rich gaming experience, a deeper character customization feature will only enhance the incredible fighting intensity as players go mano-y-mano."

Mano-y-mano may be a saying even your parents consider outdated, but there is no doubt that PSPs will be dusted off this fall.  Stay tuned for more Tekken 6 PSP info as it hits the interwebs!

Resident Evil Wii-make US Bound

Japanese gamers have been privy to updated motion control versions of Resident Evil (the GameCube remake) and Resident Evil 0 on their Wii systems for over a year now.   So when are stateside RE fans going to get some waggle enhanced zombie blazing love?
The answer is June 23 for the critically acclaimed Resident Evil Gamecube remake.

Released under the new title Resident Evil: Archives, Wii gamers will be able to relive (the remake of) the original Umbrella induced outbreak.  RE 0 on the other hand is still being shot down by Capcom regarding a US release.  Regardless, you can reclaim the title of "master of unlocking" this summer.

Bionic Commando Multiplayer Demo Live tomorrow

I'm going to bet that you are going to want to go commando all day tomorrow. Why? Because the Bionic Commando multiplayer demo is going live tomorrow, on Xbox Live! This mode will feature an 8 player deathmatch for the "Vertigo" map.

It is uber frustrating that these demos are console specific. Why wouldn't they release a demo for PS3 or at least announce something. For once I'd like to see companies focus on the gamers.

Anywho, be ready to swing all day long!

Marvel vs. Capcom 2 Returns!

After a week of waiting, the mysterious countdown at tu4ar.com has ended.  The announcement?  Marvel vs. Capcom 2 has been confirmed for the PS3 and Xbox 360.

While many speculators observing the countdown hoped for a type of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 HD Remix, a trailer at tu4ar shows gameplay footage that looks like the original MvC2 incarnation.  One feature that fans should be ecstatic about is the inclusion of online multiplayer.

Tell all of your friends the MvC2 is back!  The entire slew of 50+ characters ranging from Mega Man and his sister Roll to mutant hunting Sentinels are ready for your seizure inducing fisticuffs pleasure this summer.

Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is will set you back 1,200 Microsoft points.  For a preview of the mayhem to ensue, look for a playable demo this Thursday, April 30 on the PSN.

Batman Arkham Asylum Site is Live

If you can't wait to crack some skulls (and use your detective skills) in Arkham Asylum, you shouldn't feel alone.  With your sweat stained anticipation in mind, Eidos and Rocksteady have launched the official Arkham Asylum site.

At the Arkham site you can view trailers, screenshots, news, and production blogs.  Basically the majority of things that will be repackaged into the special features.  The site also boasts plenty of avenues to get in touch with creative team as well as a multitude of contests.

So fire your grappling hooks and swing on over to Arkham Ayslum, your number one source for all things plotting to kill Batman.

Clayfighter Virtual Console Bound

While films like Toy Story changed the face of animation across the media landscape, the 90s were also home to a grassroots level claymation revival.  Standout of the clay revolution include PC's The Neverhood and SNES's Clayfighter.

The latter of which has been rated by the ESRB for a Virtual Console release.

With characters like Ickybod Clay, Blue Suede Goo and Bad Mr. Frosty, Clayfighter stood apart from the Street Fighters and Mortal Kombats of its time.  Combine the whimsical characters with clay-pun fueled combat and you're left with something that the 12 year old me thought was, "Awesome."

But will 24 year old me feel the same?  We'll find out when Clayfighter hits the Virtual Console.

Is Marvel vs. Capcom 2 Getting the HD Treatment?

I spent a lot of time with Marvel vs. Capcom 2 on my Dreamcast with frequent revisits later on the Xbox and PS2.  So the rumors of a possible MvC2 HD Remix have me feeling pretty excited.

And by rumors I mean some pretty implicit signs.

A recent entry on the official Capcom blog shows a link to a teaser site containing a countdown and a large 2.  The teaser site (tu4ar.com) should scream out to fans of the classic fighter.  If there's one thing people remember about MvC2, it's the stellar theme song "Take You 4 A Ride."

Also keep in mind that Marvel vs. Capcom 2 was rated last year by the ESRB for both the PS3 and Xbox 360, adding yet another level of possibility to this gossip.

With the recent success of both Street Fighter IV and SFHD Remix, it's no surprise that Capcom wants to keep the monetary momentum rolling.  They have to make up for cash they lost on their terrible movies after all.  And while a direct port with online matchups would be great, it would be even more awesome to see MvC2 get the full HD Remix treatment.

As of this post the countdown has five days left and rest assured that we'll bring you the latest news as it hits.  What's that?  My fav MvC2 team?  Ryu, Spider-Man, and Jill.  Which about sums up my imagination: fireballs, superheroes, and zombies.

Tiger, Grand Slam Tennis to see MotionPlus bundles

Now we know why EA was so calm, cool and collected when last month's rumor had it Wii MotionPlus was going to be delayed. They knew something we didn't!

EA has confirmed that Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 and Grand Slam Tennis are both shipping as optional bundles in Europe, retailing at $59.99. Of course if you just want the old school Wii motion experience, the standalone titles are available for $49.99. The U.S. will see Tiger 10 bundles only.

Nintendo is excited about giving EA the opportunity to launch their first two MotionPlus titles prior to their own Wii Sports Resort, which comes bundled with MotionPlus in late July. This gives EA more than a month's head start to saturate the motion market.

- Carl Douglas: "Kung Fu Fighting"
- Europe: "The Final Countdown"

SingStar patch adds Trophies, Voice Support

The game of ultimate embarrassment SingStar has added a few updates to the PS3 version. The patch helps to sew up some loose ends such as adding trophy support, adding voice control and enhancing the look of SingStore and MySingStarOnline.

Trophies are self explanatory, giving you awards for your abilities (or lack thereof). Voice control now gives players the ability to navigate the song selection menu all by voice. Best of all, this new patch is free.

Are Battletoads Ready for a Return?

While cruising around Game Videos, I came across this priceless gem:

Terrible cartoons aside, Battletoads for the NES (or Genesis if you swing that way) represents some incredibly challenging old school gaming.  I was also a fan of Battletoads in Battlemaniacs for the SNES.

While any type of 3D realization of Battletoads is a terrible idea in my opinion, I think a remake in the vein of Mega Man 9, or better yet Maverick Hunter X (with its original Mega Man X core mechanics and a bit o' polish) would be any retro gamer's dream come true.  WiiWare, PSN, XBLA... you give me a 2D Battletoads experience and I'm there.

But don't let this nerd do all the soap boxing, how do you feel about a Battletoads revival?

To make Battletoads four player friendly Rash, Zitz, and Pimple could be joined by their cousin Herp.

Who Will Grace the Madden NFL 10 Cover?

Some consider it a blessing, others a devious curse.  But regardless of your stance on video game hoodoo, the Madden NFL cover athlete is always a big deal.

EA has added three final contenders to the growing roster of could be cover men.  The new additions include Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald; Pittsburgh Steelers safety (you know, the recent Super Bowl winner) Troy Polamalu; and everyone's favorite Colts quarterback Peyton Manning.

Swing on over to EA's site to check out their Highlander themed "There Can Be Only One" reels for each athlete.  The big announcement is said to be revealed on April 24th, aka my birthday.  We'll let you know who the lucky athlete is the moment the announcement is made!

Assassin's Creed 2 Release Date

Nothing says Christmas like a pile of dead, Renaissance era Italians under the ol' Tannenbaum.  Filled with the Christmas spirit, Ubisoft announced that Assassin's Creed 2 will be released on all major platforms this holiday season.

So while the rest of the family is debating on a star or angel for this year's tree topper, you'll be lurking through Italian locales and hanging out with Leonardo da Vinci.  Ahhh... avenging your family's honor to further the goals of a mysterious global conspiracy in the future... It's the reason for the season.
