The history of the "Konami Code"

Before their was "HTML Code" there was "The Konami Code." If you are a gamer, specificially a retro gamer, then you should know about the code. The Konami Code is a cheat code that Konami implemented in several of its games, such as NES' Contra and the shooter Gradius. The code is sometimes dubbed the "30 Lives Code" because typically that is what it was used for.

Variations of the code have been used in games as well, sometimes adding a "Start" or "Select" button at the end.

The code has even had a presence recently, Engadget has reported that the Konami code is used as a developer's code for the new Palm Pre which just launched.

Fans have even taken to showing their love for the code...

The code has served as just another inside joke amongst gamers who can all, on-call, proudly receit: up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, b, a.
