Guitar Hero Van Halen, accompanying acts

There seems to be a weird musical pairing when it comes to Activision's rock darling Guitar Hero, and the franchise's band centric installments. The idea is to find a band with a wide enough appeal to cater to a large group of rock enthusiasts, a la Aerosmith, Metallica and Van Halen. But should those bands really be responsible for selecting the accompanying artists that are featured on the game's setlist?

While previous band centric titles like GH Aerosmith did focus on bands that influenced the artists themselves, it hardly seems like that is the case anymore.

Guitar Hero Van Halen will feature Weezer, Blink 182 and Third Eye Blind, to name a few. Call me crazy, but if I want to buy a game solely for a love of Van Halen, wouldn't I be more inclined to want to jam out to, say Motley Crue, Poison or Ratt? After an intense round of playing "Eruption" on expert mode, I fear i'll be forced to devote the next 4 minutes to playing "Jumper," and that's just not cool.
