Wii Ware Titles Reviewed: The 'Yay' and the 'Nay'

Wii Ware titles seem to just pop up and release, with little to no promotion aside from a press release or two. You easily could be swayed into buying some heinous title, while great games collect dust on their digital shelves. So to steer you in the right direction, here are a few titles you should download, and a few you should avoid:

Onslaught - PASS (1000 points)
If you haven't caught our review, don't worry. Onslaught is easily one of the worst first person shooters available. Regardless of its low price point compared to a $60 next gen title, you're better off buying Goldeneye off eBay for 10 bucks. The repetitive enemies, lack of quality voice work and boring overall plot make this a snooze fest. When rocket launchers aren't fun to use in a game, you know you have a problem.

Adventure Island: The Beginning - DOWNLOAD (800 points)
Surprisingly, this is a title that looked pretty poor when the first screenshots rolled out, but turned out to be a treasure. Master Higgins takes on the usual foes in a 2D side-scrolling platformer that feels like a nice update of the original. Despite the fact the game runs in 4:3, some of the levels like the Beach are actually great looking. What really adds to the replay value is that you can upgrade Master Higgin's weapons and abilities. This game is truly addictive.

Bubble Bobble Plus! - PASS (800 points)
Taito's latest Bub and Bob adventure features 100 classic stages plus new stages, and the ability to download additional stage packs from the Wii Shop Channel. So what's the problem? The game doesn't add any customization, something that without can make for a stale experience. Some different song choices, character choices, or a level editor would be welcomed additions. If you have the original already downloaded from the Virtual Console, there's really no need to break the bank.
