Sony says Motion Controls are 'Essential'

My, how the tides have turned. Sony showed off an unnamed motion controller at E3, which will debut next spring, but it was just recently that Sony wrote off Nintendo's Wii console as nothing more than a gimmick.

Well regardless, Sony is introducing motion to its PS3 console, in a move that will be integral to their 10 year plan.

"[It's] one of the essentials," said Andrew House, President and CEO to Sony Europe, to GamesIndustry.biz. "But the PlayStation 3 is also one of the best Blu-ray players around for high-definition movies and that almost gets lost in the mix. That gives it an enormous sense of longevity, people want the best if they are buying into high-definition entertainment from a television standpoint or from a movie standpoint. That's an inherently long lifecycle and it helps bolster the traditional gaming lifecycle as well."

Is Nintendo exclusive software enough to keep gamers on the Wii's currently motion control exclusivity bandwagon, or have they been waiting for an HD console to offer the same controls. Only time will tell, as the console wars have shifted to the motion wars.
