Although many claim that the latter part of 2008 was a huge disappointment for Wii, it did bring some exciting announcements. As we all know, Wii MotionPlus is set to debut this spring, introducing a more precise motion controlled option. With it, games like Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10, and of course its bundled buddy Wii Sports Resort, will really be able to go all out when attempting to execute the most minuscule of movements.
Also on the spring horizon is the Wii system update to finally fix the storage solution. Instead of offering an external harddrive, Nintendo is opting for a downloadable update, which will ease the movement of data from SD cards to and from the Wii system. While it's not the answer we hoped for, it should still help with the problem of running out of space.
Then of course, there's the upcoming April 5th US launch of the DSi. With dual cameras, DSiWare and an SD card memory slot, there's plenty of reasons to upgrade.
With all that out of the way before summer, we can freely theorize what E3 2009 will bring. The first week of June is not that far away, and Nintendo has a lot of redeeming to do if they want to make up for last year's disappointing showing. What's interesting is that while last year many theorized that a new Donkey Kong, Kid Icarus, Star Fox or Pilotwings title would debut, they didn't. What's even more interesting is that we are in the exact same position as we were this time last year, hoping one of Nintendo's core franchises will make its return come E3.
I guess we'll find out in just 3 short months.
