If you've played Shadow of the Colossus for the PS2, then you understand how important it is to the video game medium. With its amazing story, characters, and of course collosi, it proved that video games could contend with even the loftiest of cinematic standards.
With major Hollywood players eyeing franchises like BioShock, it's no surprise that a "cinematic gaming masterpiece" is getting a few looks.
Guillermo del Toro and other big screen veterans have called Shadow of the Colossus the Citizen Kane of the medium. And when the best in the business say you're the best in yours, that's a big deal. Segueing from that statement, The Hollywood Reporter is, well reporting, that Shadow of the Colossus is gearing up for a movie.
So let's talk pieces to the puzzle. In the producer chair we have Kevin Misher, who has produced a variety of films including The Scorpion King, The Interpreter, and the upcoming Dune project. The proposed writer for the project is Justin Marks, whose latest Chun-Li flick you may have heard of.
Weighing the good and the bad, we've got a producer who can get a ton of money together for a project and a writer who (although he has a lot of work) hopefully really wants to prove himself. The task of writing will be interesting for Marks as Shadow of the Colossus took a minimalist approach to dialogue.
Despite all the pros and cons of a Colossus movie, it's important to remember that a lot of these reports are still speculation at best. The road from word processor to screen is a long one, but we'll continue to provide news as it breaks.
