Instruments Unleashed

It's been a point of contention for a while now among people who like to bang on plastic things that resemble actual musical instruments as to just how ridiculous it was that Activision refused to release individual drum kits and guitars for Guitar Hero: World Tour. Well, the ridiculousness is over.

Starting this weekend, you'll be able to complete your laughably lackluster Guitar Hero band by purchasing the latest wireless guitar and drum kit peripherals all by their lonesomes. How much will this run you? Well, GameStop will be offering the drum kit for $100 and a guitar for $70. Just ignore that squirmy feeling coming from your wallet.

Forgive a little editorializing here, but are these things really worth that much money? I enjoy a nice rhythm game as much as the next nerd, but molded plastic flippy thingies can't be that expensive to manufacture. For $170, you could buy a halfway decent real guitar and teach yourself a few chords that are guaranteed to snag you the hottest women around. Or, barring that, the second hottest. Or if you're really bad, the merely available.

Maybe.
