Xbox Live Even Livelier Than Ever

It may not be free like the PSN, and it may feature the ugliest avatars this side of a James Cameron movie, but Xbox Live is chugging right along in 2009. See all those people loving Xbox Live up there? I especially like that one girl who's all, "Yeah, Xbox Live is cool. What of it?"

And Microsoft will be darned if you live another day without knowing all about how awesome they are. Hence, a press release.

309,000 Xboxes were sold in January 2009, 33% more than a year ago, and there were more new Xbox Live subscriptions than ever. Downloadable expansions for bestsellers like Fable II and Fallout 3 are getting a lot of the credit for the surge in sales, but I think Microsoft may be overlooking the huge numbers of people who signed on just to download the free Subway Sandwiches premium dashboard theme. $5 footlongs? You gotta be kidding me!

But wait, that's not all. Two million people have downloaded the demo for Halo Wars, more than any people have ever downloaded anything in the history of downloadable things. Or something along those lines. And Xbox games made up half of the list of top ten bestselling software titles for the beginning of the year.

Microsoft expects even more online records to be broken when the Xbox 360 exclusive The Lost and the Damned expansion for Grand Theft Auto IV is released in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, Sony would like to interest you in some pretend furniture for your Home home. It really is excellent quality.
