The British Advertising Standards Authority have banned an Xbox 360 ad from U.K. TV, and it didn't even feature Heidi Klum in her underthings. It seems the ad touted the mindbogglingly wonderful features of Xbox Live, including the ability to download movies...get this...DIRECTLY TO YOUR CONSOLE!
Apparently, some British TV watcher became so emotionally invested in the promise of purchasing movies through Xbox Live that the realization that these flicks are only rented for a certain amount of time crushed his soul to the point where he registered a complaint with the ASA (the most threatening, rage-fueled action most Brits are capable of).
The ad didn't specifically claim that movies could be kept as long as you want, but the panel of judges (who I'm assuming all wore fancy wigs) ruled that such an idea could be reasonably construed from watching the ad.
I'm just wondering why Americans aren't as strict about our advertising. I bought Kevin Trudeau's "Natural Cures They Don't Want You to Know About", and there wasn't a single natural cure in there! Worse, I showed the book to my family doctor, and he was all, "Yeah, I totally wanted you to know about those." Why can't anyone go after that Trudeau guy?
Oh, wait. They did.
