BlowOut Breezes Onto XBL

Even with last fall's overhaul of Xbox Live, there's still one area of the service that needs drastic improvement. The Xbox Originals section provides fully downloadable copies of classic original Xbox games. Sony's PSN does something similar with old PS1 and PSP games, but they're ahead of the curve on Microsoft with this one. The multiheaded Japanese tentacle beast that oversees all things Playstation understands that even good old games shouldn't cost you an arm and a leg. Or a tentacle, for that matter. On the other hand, Bill Gates seems to think $15 is a fair price for Intellivision Lives. Go figure.

Anyway, the trend doesn't look like it's stopping anytime soon, as the latest "classic" game to be added to XBL is 2003's side-scrolling shooter BlowOut.

...hooray?

You'd be forgiven for never having heard of BlowOut, since it was a budget title that no one played and even less people actually liked. And yes, you read that right. The operative word here is "budget", which means that the game was released brand new for $20--just $5 more than its current asking price on XBL. And just $18.50 more than the buck fifty it costs to snatch up a used copy.

True, there are some truly classic Xbox Originals available. Games like Jade Empire, Psychonauts, Sid Meir's Pirates!, Halo, Fable, and GTA: San Andreas are more than welcome. But almost all of these can be found resting comfortably in your local GameStop for as much or less than it costs to download them. Microsoft, you've got some splainin' to do.
