Xbox Live Evolution

Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg is all about the Xbox Live news these days. First he says the friends limit will be increased beyond a meager 100. In the old days of the original Xbox and color-coded terror alerts, it was inconceivable that anyone would have more than 100 online friends, so the limit seemed right at the time. But today, with most of us too afraid of bird flu to leave the house (or is that just me?), almost all our friends are pretend. And we have thousands.

Greenberg also dropped word about when to expect some major updates to the (not so) New Xbox Experience. Last November's shiny, avatarrific overhaul made adding new features far simpler than the blades-based days of yore, so Microsoft will be adding lots of new features throughout the year. Most notable will be the addition of Primetime, a new channel that will play host to live events like quiz shows and video presentations scheduled at specific times. The first confirmed Primetime offering will be a massively multiplayer version of the game show 1 vs. 100, which involves a single human vying for his life in a vat of 100 starving piranhas. I don't know, I've never seen the show.

Greenberg also hints at a massive update around Christmas, but details are sketchy. Here's hoping it involves piranhas.
