CES '09: Nyko Wand

Aside from introducing a jumbo jet sized HD TV, or the enevitable iPhone killer, CES is usually good for a couple of solid gaming announcements too. This years Consumer Electronics Show has debuted a lineup from Nyko, a third-party developer of accessories and peripherals for all next-gen systems.

Nyko has unveiled its latest offering of Wii accessories, and they sure look pretty. Introducing the Wand. This is Nyko's answer to those looking for a Wii Remote, without buying a Wii Remote...or something. I'm not sure the purpose other than a potential price cut, but it's cool to see the product out there. The Wand features 25 feet of wireless functionality, and the same built in speaker, vibration functionality and button layout as the Wii Remote. The main physical differences are the lowered plus and minus buttons, which seem easier to hit during gameplay, and the enlarged 1 and 2 buttons which seems better for virtual console titles.

The company has also unveiled The Kama Charge Kit, a charging dock that can be used for the traditional Wii Remote, as well as their wireless nunchuk, the Kama. And lastly, the Charge Kit EX will not only charge those Wii Remotes, but it will provide an energy indicator on the stand so you can see just how much juice you have left in those bad boys.

All three products will be available this April in the US; other regions have not been confirmed.
