Electronic Gaming Monthly has just announced that it will stop production of its popular monthly magazine. The January issue of the publication is said to be the last issue, as the doors are shut forever. With a time span of 20 years, EGM has been a valuable source for gaming news and information. But with the advent of the Internet and an economic recession, EGM has lost its once concrete position in the gaming universe.
1up, the EGM's online division, used its extra life and has just been acquired by UGO entertainment. Because of the demise of EGM, many jobs are said to be lost.
I remember being a huge fan of EGM. It's hard to believe that gaming magazines were once the only way to get your news and gaming tidbits. With the Internet's accessibility, and gaming news breaking every hour, these publications have become almost unnecessary, and just serve as a compilation of information-reiteration.
Goodbye EGM. You'll be missed.
